Luke Air Force Base

El Mirage, Arizona

Luke Air Force Base is located just down the street aways from our RV resort.

The base is an active-duty F-16 Fighting Falcon training base with 170 F-16s assigned.

It also houses a total of 144 F-35A Lightning IIs.

The airpower these jets provide is amazing and impressive.

They fly Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm.

The noise they make can be overwhelming.

When they fly over during pickleball, we sign the scores. Rich and I don’t even try to talk when they start flying over.

We just count aircraft to four because that’s how many take off during each round.

Once we count to four, we’ll try to start talking again.

I feel very unpatriotic to say it, but I won’t miss their loudness a bit when we leave this resort on Sunday. 🙂

  1. When we first moved back from Alaska, we bought a house…….I liked to say it was on the back nine of the Hillcrest Golf Course, but in truth, it was at the end of the runway at the airport. At that time, they were flying the F-16’s as well as the A-10’s for training at Gowen Field.
All I had to do was lay one or both of the boys down for a nap and a group of four would take off. They would literally rattle the pictures on the wall. And put an abrupt end to a peaceful nap and my “me” time!

    1. That’s awful, Sharon! I wonder if there’s an app that tells when they’re scheduled to fly. That would be so helpful. I could have scheduled phone calls (and naps) for the quiet times.

    1. Giggles, it is loud, Carol. They took today off, and it’s lovely. Hope the pilots are enjoying their day off as much as we are. 🙂

  2. But, who was there first? Just like all these new subdivisions were built all around old farmers fields and the farmer still had cattle and all the people got in an uproar about the smell. Or kennels that were out in the middle of no where, but now surrounded by new homes and the people don’t like listening to the barking. Or …… just playing devil advocate! I know the best one yet ….. “Jesus loves you” in big bold white letters defacing a beautiful meadow ….. people noticed it when looking at their dream lot, it didn’t bother them then, but now ….. no one likes to see it!! Now, that’s a great example in my mind! ha ha!!

    1. I’m sure the Air Force base was here first. All I know is that I’m choosing not to come back here again. 🙂

      1. And that is the way it should be!! You didn’t like my perfect example of “Jesus Loves You”?
